Creative Listening

Hello Internet Friends! Today I want to continue with the Finding Inspiration theme - this time with the focus on finding inspiration in what we listen to. I recently blended families with my partner (eek) and instead of a sweet-as 12 minute commute to work, I now average 1 and a half hours each way, each day. And while I love my tunes, even my favourites can get a bit old after listening to them for hours on end, day in day out.  So it isn't any great surprise that I am a huge fan of Podcasts.  Now, I don't know WHAT it is, but the minute you mention podcasts everyone you meet seems to  relish listening to true crime podcasts about serial killers and other ghoulish things! I don't get it.  Instead my go to are podcasts all about creativity and and/or interviews with artists and creators of all types. So I thought that I would collate for you a few of my favourites. Here they are in no particular order: Creative Pep Talk I f you need pepping up and cheering on...

Finding Inspiration

Yesterday I went for a jaunt around Yeerongpilly and Salisbury. I don't get out much so I was pleasantly amazed by the absolute creative havens they both were. At Yeerongpilly we started with breakfast at the Adonis Cafe which itself was gorgeous. The food was delicious and the whole area is dotted with stunning mosaics from a previous resident artist.  We were then presented with a plethora of creative industry businesses - Vector Etch, KEPK art and studio space, Studio West End just to name a few.  As we went from door to door I felt that I could spend days just talking to the artists and creators that we discovered and ogling their works.  There is also a gorgeous plant shop (which I stoically avoided going into with my black thumbs), an aquarium, a pottery boutique, the list goes on - the whole area down Lucy Street is like a creative hub.  At Salisbury we went and visited the fabulous Katie from Art Class Brisbane.  After feasting our eyes on her new ...

Hello There

Well hello, hello to everybody out there in internet land!! I know what you are thinking...should we tell Barbara that 2014 called and they want their blog back?? I know. it's 2024 and I'm starting a new blog.   But, I don't know, I'm a retro-loving gal and I figured that surely blogging can experience it's own renaissance?! And I don't mean the Medieval Fayre variety. Less swords and more connection.  Don't get me wrong, I love Instagram and all the pretty pictures, but I just felt the need to have a little interwebs home of my own to ramble more, share more and really have the chance to slow down and connect.   So pull up a comfy chair, or couch or blanket fort.  And tell me a little about yourself.  It could be where you are right now, what you love to do or make, or even what your dreams for the year involve.  Either way, I'd love to know.    I have a feeling we are going to be great friends.
